The Holy Spirit, Our Help for Holiness

Seven P’S to Engage Holy Ghost Help for Holiness – Part 5

The Text

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NLT2)
1 Corinthians 6:9 (NLT2)  Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
1 Corinthians 6:10 (NLT2)  or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:11 (NLT2)  Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

The Lesson

7.     The Holy Spirit helps us live Holy when we Engage with His Power.

The Holy Spirit us a powerful to Witness

Romans 15:13 (KJV)  Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

'  Joy and peace are the fruit of the Spirit. Here we see that we can abound in the fruit through the power of the Holy Spirit.

'  The Baptism in the Holy Spirit provides power to be a witness of the resurrected Christ.

Acts 1:8 (ESV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 4:33 (ESV)
And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.

'  The Holy Spirit comes to make us living epistles of the words we speak.

2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (KJV)
2Co 3:2 (KJV)  Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
2Co 3:3 (KJV)  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

'  To be a most effective witness of a resurrected Christ, not only do we need power to speak effectively; we also need to exemplify the power of the resurrection by living a holy life.

Romans 6:4 (ESV)
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:4 (NLT2)
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

Romans 6:10-14 (NLT2)
Ro 6:10 (NLT2)  When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God.
Ro 6:11 (NLT2)  So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
Ro 6:12 (NLT2)  Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.
Ro 6:13 (NLT2)  Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but NOW YOU HAVE NEW LIFE. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
Ro 6:14 (NLT2)  Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

'  A changed life is the evidence of His resurrection.  If we don’t live holy, men will hear our words, but they won’t see evidence of the resurrection.

Hebrews 12:14 (KJV)
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

The Holy Spirit gives us the power to live a Holy Life.

2 Peter 1:3-5 (NLT2)
2Pe 1:3 (NLT2)  By his divine [dynamis] power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
2Pe 1:4 (NLT2)  And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
2Pe 1:5 (NLT2)  In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,

·         “By His divine [dynamis] power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.

·         We have received all of this by coming to know Him.” The power to live holy, though further enhanced when we receive the Baptism in the Holy Ghost, comes immediately when you come to know Christ.

·         “These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature.” By the Holy Spirit in regeneration, we share in God’s nature. Through His divine power, we share in His divine nature. This is God’s promise.

·         Through His divine power, we escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. Because of His divine power operating our lives, we are no longer slaves to our human desires.

·         In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith. This promised power will only work in the lives of those who apply their faith to walk in it.

More power is promised to those who believe

Luke 24:49 (KJV)  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 1:4-5 (KJV)
Ac 1:4 (KJV)  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Ac 1:5 (KJV)  For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Acts 2:32-33 (KJV)
Ac 2:32 (KJV)  This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
Ac 2:33 (KJV)  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

Acts 2:38-39 (KJV)
Ac 2:38 (KJV)  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Ac 2:39 (KJV)  For THE PROMISE IS UNTO YOU, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Hebrews 6:12 (HCSB)  so that you won’t become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.

G  Stay in Faith. Expect in Faith. Act in Faith. Persevere in Faith. God keeps His promises!!! You will receive the Baptism in the Holy Ghost.

The Invitation – How to Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Get Hungry and Thirsty for the Holy Spirit

John 7:37-39 (KJV)
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Humble Yourself

Isaiah 57:15 (KJV)
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Mix the Word You’ve Heard with Faith

Hebrews 4:2 (KJV)

For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Galatians 3:2 (ESV) 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?

Galatians 3:5 (ESV) 5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

Galatians 3:13-14 (ESV) 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Ask in Faith for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Luke 11:13 (KJV)
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Mark 11:24 (KJV)
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Receive by Faith the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

John 20:22 (KJV)
22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV)
 Quench not the Spirit.

Praise Until Something Happens (P. U. S. H.)

Ephesians 5:18-21 (HCSB)
{18} And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit:
{19} speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music from your heart to the Lord,
{20} giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
{21} submitting to one another in the fear of Christ.

Psalm 22:3 (KJV)
{3} But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
